Bullock stalker faces jail

An obsessed fan of Sandra Bullock was yesterday charged with stalking the actor and trying to run over her husband, TV motorcycle maker Jesse James, outside the couple's California home.

Forty-six-year-old Marcia Diane Valentine was charged with aggravated assault and stalking. She could face up to four years and eight months in prison if convicted, the district attorney's office said in a statement.

Ms Valentine remained free on bail and is due to appear in court on May 22.

Last week, the star of Oscar-winning Crash and Premonition was granted a restraining order barring Ms Valentine from contacting or coming near her home, family or work for three years.

Bullock testified in court that on five occasions Valentine left palm fronds adorned with "weird signs" and "pieces of animal fur" in her yard.

Prosecutors allege that several times Ms Valentine lay down in front of the couple's driveway until ordered away. The actor also testified that after Ms Valentine was spotted on April 22 outside the couple's home in Sunset Beach, her husband went outside and tried to write down the woman's licence plate.

"When Mr James went outside, Ms Valentine is accused of screaming obscenities ... getting into her silver Mercedes-Benz, and reversing her car in an effort to run over Mr James," the district attorney's office said.

She narrowly missed James, the presenter of US TV show Monster Garage, then reversed again in an effort to run him down before fleeing the scene, prosecutors said.

James was not hurt in the incident but Valentine was arrested the next day by sheriff's deputies while driving in the area.
